Angstrom Microsystems is a Boston based company that has developed green computing solutions for the $15 billion dollar server industry and, more importantly, for all major data centers who are now mandated to save energy by the EPA. According to the EPA, if all American's were to leave their TV's on 24/7 they wouldn't use as much energy as all the major data centers combined.
Angstrom Microsystems has developed green computing solutions for the $15 billion dollar server industry and more importantly for all major data centers who are now mandated to save energy by the EPA.
Data centers full of computer serversfrom companies like NTT, Yahoo, Google, EADS Airbusand Microsoft waste billions of dollars a year through their use of inefficient power and cooling systems;
Data center computers use their software inefficiently, thus significantly increasing
the number of computers needed for their proper operation;
Angstrom has developed technologies that significantly reduce the electricity needed to operate computers in large data centers. Through its unique liquid cooling, ultra-efficient power technologies and acceleration software, Angstrom reduces computing costs by reducing the power needed to operate its computers with:
- Patent-pending liquid-cooling blade servers, thus by-passing the extremely inefficient process of air-conditioning;
- Copyrighted acceleration software that significantly improves the performance of each server, thus reducing the overall need for additional servers.
- Integrated power efficiency technology, significantly reducing the power usage per computing cycle.
At present up to $0.55 cents of each dollar spent on servers goes into energy costs, $0.30 cents of which is for cooling the data center and its computer equipment;
Angstrom has developed a patent pending server that self cools via a non-conductive liquid and therefore reduces the amount of air conditioning and electricity used to cool down servers, thereby having the ability to save $0.25 cents of that $0.30 cents.
Angstrom is developing software that can reduce, for certain vertical markets, the number of computers needed in the data center by improving the performance of each computer. Clients not only save money but have the ability to utilize carbon credits which today is a very important component in this new energy era.
Angstrom has a “who’s who” of clients, including most major animation houses such as Pixar (For example, In Ice Age 2, you’ll see Angstrom in the end credits), Industrial Light and Magic, Blue Sky, as well as the National Institute of Health and Credit Suisse, to name a few.
Sales for 2007 was $2 million dollar but it’s important to note that the founder, a graduate alumnus of MIT, has produced over $50 million in sales since inception of Angstrom 8 years ago.
Revenues are projected conservatively at $10 million in sales for 2008 and ramping up very quickly to $25 million and then to $75 million, respectively, in years 2009 and 2010.
Angstrom isn’t just a server company but, possesses a solution to resolve the biggest issue in data centers and that is cooling, so logically, once sales traction is made, Angstrom should ramp up sales very quickly.
